A permit that identifies the operating conditions necessary for compliance with state rules relative to water and manure runoff from an animal feeding operation. This permit generally applies to larger open feedlots, but could be required for smaller open feedlots or confinement operations that have conditions that pose a risk to water quality.

Who Applies Large Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations with more than 1000 Animal Units that may discharge and some Medium Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations.

When To Apply New or expanding animal feeding operations must apply for a NPDES permit at least 180 days before the operation starts.

Initial Requirements Applicant should check with county and other local authorities to determine if any local requirements apply.

Duration Up to 5 years.

Processing Time 2 to 6 months.

Fee Structure $85 application fee $340 annual fee
