Sheep dealers buy for resale, sell, or exchange sheep. The permit does not apply to the following: employees of a sheep dealer, the operator or owner of a farm who exchanges only sheep which have been kept solely for feeding or breeding purposes, and livestock auction markets acting strictly on a consignment basis.

Who Applies Any person engaged in the business of sheep dealing must obtain a license.
When To Apply Application must be made and a license issued before operations begin.
Initial Requirements All sheep dealers are subject to inspection (facility and/or records) by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
Duration Licenses are renewed annually and expire on July 1 following the date of issuance.
