License to use, manufacture, produce, distribute, sell, transport, or possess radioactive materials in the State of Iowa.

Who Applies Any business that uses, possess, manufactures, distributes, transports, sells radioactive materials must obtain a license.

When To Apply Before radioactive materials are acquired.

Initial Requirements Applicants must fulfill the following requirements: Comply with minimum training requirements for those individuals who will directly supervise or use the radioactive materials and/or radiation machines, designate a radiation safety officer (RSO) who will be responsible for ensuring that radioactive materials are used only by authorized individuals and in a safe manner, provide information to the Department of Health and Human Services concerning the type and number/amount of radioactive materials and machines that will be used, and dispose of the licensed material by transferring the material to an authorized recipient.

Duration ten years.

Processing Time 30 to 90 days.

Fee Structure New License: Varies according to type of material or machine. Annual Fee: Varies according to type of material or machine and frequency of inspection.

Renewal Requirements Must submit renewal application at least 30 days prior to expiration date.
