Dealer license authorizes a person to engage in the business of selling at retail mobile homes or manufactured housing to the general public. Distributor license authorizes a person to act as a wholesale distributor to retailers. Manufacturer\\\\\\\\’s license authorizes manufacturing mobile or manufactured homes for sale in Iowa.

Who Applies
Any person engaged in the business of selling 1 or more mobile homes or manufactured houses in a 12 month period must obtain a dealer license. Any person engaged in distributing mobile or manufactured homes to retailers must maintain a distributor\\\\\\\\’s license. Any manufacturer providing mobile or manufactured homes to Iowa retailers must maintain a manufacturer\\\\\\\\’s license.
When To Apply
Application must be made and a license issued before sales begin.
Initial Requirements
An applicant for retail licensure must file a surety bond with the Department of Public Safety in the amount of $50,000. A manufacturer must provide a manufacturer\\\\\\\\’s certificate of origin with each unit. Must be a $50,000 mobile/manufactured home retailer bond. The display of mobile homes or manufactured housing at fairs, shows, and exhibitions requires an additional 14-day temporary permit. (Not to exceed 14 days.)
Duration
One year (all licenses expire on December 31 each year).

Fee Structure
$100 annual license fee.
