The Licensed Iowa Hunting Preserve Permit provides the permit holder the ability to release pen-reared game birds or game animals to be shot on the permitted property.

Who Applies Any person participating in an activity of any kind which involves raising/propagating and releasing game birds or game animals to be shot in a controlled manner must obtain a license from the Department of Natural Resources.

When To Apply Application may be submitted at any time.

Initial Requirements Iowa Department of Agriculture regulates and has authority with health requirements of game birds and animals purchased or raised, imported or exported and which are utilized in hunting preserve operations. Contact the department at 515.281.5321. Prospective applicants should also check with licensed game breeders before making application to ensure that a supply of certified disease-free game birds/animals can be purchased for hunting preserve purposes.

Duration Valid for the season issued and renewable on an annual basis. The season is September 1 through March 31.

Processing Time Estimated processing time is 4 – 8 weeks depending upon site inspection and information submitted.

Fee Structure Hunting Preserve License: Operator: $200 Kill/Transportation Tags for Game Taken: $.05 each (Birds), $1 each (Big Game). *Hunting Licenses must be acquired by hunters.
