Holders of the substitute license may serve as a substitute in any subject, any grade level.

Who Applies Educators who hold, have held, or are eligible to hold a teaching license are eligible for a substitute license.

When To Apply 4-6 weeks prior to the start of employment.

Initial Requirements Educators who hold, have held, or are eligible to hold a teaching license are eligible for a substitute license.

Duration 5 years.

Processing Time 4-6 weeks.

Fee Structure $85 to apply $75 background check for new applicants (out of state) $95 to renew

Renewal Requirements One renewal credit, or proof of 30 days of substitute teaching, or proof of one year of teaching, in the previous five years, and the mandatory reporter trainings for child and dependent adult abuse.

Exam None.

Additional Information Educators may also use a valid teaching or administrator license to serve as a substitute teacher.
