Who Applies Any motor carrier who transports passengers for-hire in Iowa.

When To Apply Before transporting begins.

Initial Requirements Insurance–For-hire carriers must maintain continuous insurance coverage. Safety Education Seminar–Carriers of passengers (16 or more passengers), both charter and regular route, are required to attend. The seminar is to be completed within six months of issuance of the certificate. U.S. DOT number — All intrastate motor carriers operating for-hire are required to have a U.S. DOT number. An application (MCS-150) must be completed if the carrier does not already have a U.S. DOT number. Regular route carriers need a financial statement.
