License regulates individuals and firms engaged in the buying or trading of skins of fur-bearing animals, legalizes the possession of furs at any time and requires reporting of inventory and transactions.

Who Applies Any person, firm, partnership, or corporation engaged in the business of buying, trading or otherwise obtaining raw hides or skins of furbearing animals must obtain a license.

When To Apply The license may be applied for and purchased at all DNR district offices or central office in Des Moines. The license always expires on January 10th of each year. It may be purchased from December 15th of the prior year, through December 14th of the current year.

Initial Requirements The reciprocity agreement must be checked. Which means if the purchaser\’s state sells an Iowa resident a similar license to what we have, we will sell one to that non resident.

Duration One year. Expiration is January 10th of each year.

Processing Time 5-7 Days.

Fee Structure Resident License: $226 Nonresident License: $588.50 Nonresident Location Permit: $294.50 per location

Renewal Requirements Location Permits $294.50 for Non-Residents, no fee for Resident Location Permits.
