About

”Research facility” means any school or college of medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, or osteopathic medicine, or hospital, diagnostic or research laboratories, or other educational or scientific establishment situated in this state concerned with the investigation of, or instruction concerning the structure or function of living organisms, the cause, prevention, control or cure of diseases or abnormal conditions of human beings or animals.

Who Applies Any person wishing to operate a research facility.

When To Apply Application must be made and a certificate issued before operations begin.

Initial Requirements Valid license with USDA Animal Care.

Duration Certificate expires one year following the date of issuance.

Processing Time 30 days.

Fee Structure $175

Renewal Requirements Does not pertain.

Exam Does not pertain.

Additional Information A research facility shall only operate pursuant to a certificate of registration issued by the department as provided in section 162.2A. The research facility shall maintain records as required by the department in order for the department to ensure the research facility’s compliance with the provisions of this chapter. A research facility shall not purchase a dog or cat from a commercial establishment that does not have a valid authorization issued or renewed under this chapter or a similar authorization issued or renewed by another state.
