About

Every person engaged in the business of custom hatching, producing baby chicks for sale in this state, or of selling for sale baby chicks from any place located in this state shall obtain a license from the department for each establishment at which said business is conducted.

Who Applies Every person engaged in the business of custom hatching, producing baby chicks and other baby domestic fowl in Iowa for sale, or selling or offering for sale baby chicks or other baby domestic fowl, shall obtain a license.

When To Apply Application must be made and a license issued before operations begin.

Initial Requirements All hatcheries or businesses selling or offering for sale baby chicks or other baby domestic fowl are subject to inspection (facility and/or records) by the Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.

Duration The license is renewed every two years and expires July 1 following the date of issuance.

Processing Time 10 days.

Fee Structure License: $10 per year Renewal: $20
