Permits for the construction or operation of facilities that process, land apply, compost or transfer solid waste.

Who Applies All county, municipal, industrial or private agencies wishing to handle, process, or dispose of solid waste by a method other than landfilling must obtain a permit from the IDNR before construction or operation.

When To Apply A complete application must be submitted to IDNR at least 90 days before the anticipated starting date of construction or operation.

Initial Requirements Check with your local zoning authority.

Duration Three (3) years. Renewals must be received by IDNR 90 days before the permit expiration.

Processing Time Approximately 60 days from the date the IDNR receives a complete application.
