Registration to manufacture, distribute, prescribe or dispense any controlled substance within or into Iowa. Code Citation IC 124.302 Who Applies Anyone prescribing, administering, dispensing, manufacturing, or otherwise distributing or handling controlled substances. This includes medical and osteopathic doctors, dentists, veterinarians, podiatrists, optometrists, physician assistants, advanced registered nurse practitioners, prescribing psychologists, pharmacies, hospitals, care facilities, analytical laboratories, researchers, manufacturers, distributors, reverse distributors, importers, exporters, emergency medical service providers, outsourcing facilities, clinics, and teaching institutions engaged in any of these identified activities involving controlled substances. When To Apply Before prescribing, taking possession of, manufacturing, or distributing controlled substances within or into Iowa. Initial Requirements Registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Association. May also require a current professional or business license issued by the appropriate professional licensure board in Iowa. Duration Two year renewal. Processing Time Five days. Fee Structure Registration: $90 for 2-year registration. Registrations for individuals are currently prorated to coincide with expiration of professional license. Renewal Requirements Renewal application and renewal fee (prorated based on $90 2-year registration) no later than date of expiration of current registration. Renewal within 30 days following expiration of current registration requires payment of an additional $90 late payment penalty fee. Reactivation more than 30 days following expiration requires a reactivation fee of $360. Exam Does not pertain.
