Who Applies Any person engaged in the business of fabricating or assembling motor vehicles or towable recreational vehicles must obtain a license.

When To Apply A valid license is required before manufacturing these types of vehicles and selling to licensed dealers. A manufacturer may not sell vehicles directly to the public except in certain circumstances.

Initial Requirements Submit a current listing of Iowa-franchised dealers. Submit a sample copy of a completed manufacturer\’s statement of origin.

Duration A manufacturer license is valid until the end of even-numbered years and must be renewed.

Processing Time 30 days to review applications and five days processing time.

Fee Structure License: $70

Renewal Requirements Renewal applications will be mailed in October prior to the expiration at the end of December.

Additional Information Licensed motor vehicles and towable recreational vehicle manufacturers are restricted to selling vehicles to licensed dealers through franchise agreements. A licensed manufacturer may sell directly to the public if it produces motor homes.
