Who Applies Any retailer selling a household hazardous material must obtain a permit. Household materials include, but are not limited to household cleaners, motor oils, motor oil additives, motor oil filters, transmission fluid, engine lubricants, all fuels and all types of gas treatments, freeze-up products, gasoline and diesel additives, degreasers, waxes and polishes, solvents, paints, pesticides, lead acid batteries, and windshield washer fluid. A manufacturer or distributor of household hazardous material may obtain the permit on behalf of its authorized door-to-door retailers in the state, in lieu of individual permits for each retailer.
When To Apply Before sales begin.
Initial Requirements Sellers of household hazardous materials must participate in the Retailer\’s Consumer Education Program. Information on the program will be provided when a permit is granted.
Duration Permit expires on June 30 of each year. Retailers must submit an annual application by July 1 of each year.
Processing Time Four to six weeks.
Fee Structure Permit: $25 per location for retailers. Manufacturers and Distributors who use independent contractors $25 for the first $3 million in sales, then $100 for each increment of $3 million, up to $3000.
Renewal Requirements Renewal notices are sent automatically by IDR each June.
Exam Does not pertain.
