Registration is required for any childcare home providing child care to more than five children plus one school aged child at one time.

Who Applies A person wishing to provide child care to more than five children plus one school aged children at any one time must be registered as a child development home by the Department of Human Services. A person providing care to six or less children at any one time may be registered.

When To Apply Registration may take place at any time if the child care home provider is caring for six or less children. A child care home provider caring for more than five children of any age plus one school aged child at one time must be registered.

Initial Requirements A criminal record check and child abuse registry checks will be conducted on the provider, anyone age 14 or older living in the home, and any person who may have access to children in child care. The home is subject to a pre-inspection and annual inspections. Applications and the requirements to be registered are available at all Department of Human Services county offices and online.

Duration Two years.

Processing Time Up to 6-8 weeks depending on background check results.

Fee Structure No fees.

Renewal Requirements 24 hours of Professional development per registration period Prior to registration, 1st Aid/CPR current certification and maintained Prior to registration, Mandatory Reporter child abuse training, and every 5 years Essentials Child Care Training prior to registration
