Who Applies Any person wishing to operate a facility where child care will be provided for seven or more children must obtain a license unless meeting an exemption outlined in 237A.1.

When To Apply Application must be filed prior to the beginning of operation. Obtain a license application packet and seek consultation as the first step when considering opening a center.

Initial Requirements Application papers are available at the applicant’s perspective county office. Contact the Department of Human Services at 515.242.5994 and ask to speak with a child care licensing consultant to determine your county An approved Fire Marshal\\’s certificate must also be obtained.

Duration License is issued for no less than 24 months.

Processing Time Processing may take up to 120 days.
