Permit issued to protect outside air from potential emissions from new or modified equipment or control equipment.

Who Applies Any facility, process, or operation that is planning to construct, install, reconstruct, or alter any equipment, or related control equipment that has the potential to emit air contaminants is required to obtain a construction permit.

When To Apply The applicant must obtain a permit prior to the initiation of construction, installation, or alteration of any equipment or control equipment to the outside air.

Initial Requirements Businesses should check with local planning and zoning agencies. Businesses located in all other counties in Iowa should contact the Iowa DNR: Air Construction Permit Helpline 1.877.AIR.IOWA.

Duration For the life of the equipment or until modified.

Processing Time It is the department\\’s goal to issue all standard projects within 30 days of receipt by the Department of Natural Resources.

Renewal Requirements A construction permit does not require renewal and is valid for the life of the equipment or until the equipment is modified.

Exam A non-licensed company employee is allowed to complete the application for a construction permit. If a consultant prepares the application, it must have been by or under the supervision of an active Iowa Licensed Professional Engineer and the Iowa professional engineering license number of that individual must be provided.
