About

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Responder is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide life saving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response and to assist higher level personnel at the scene and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Responders perform interventions with minimal equipment.

Who Applies Any individual who wishes to become certified as an EMR.

When To Apply After successful course completion.

Initial Requirements An applicant must successfully complete an EMR course, be at least 17 years of age, proficient in reading, writing and speaking english.

Duration Two years.

Processing Time Two weeks.

Fee Structure initial Certification Application Fee: $30 Renewal Fee: None

Renewal Requirements 12 hours of approved continuing education every two years. Current course completion card in CPR.

Exam National Registry of EMTs EMR cognitive and psychomotor exam.

Additional Information Applicants must complete a background check before certification.
