Who Applies Any individual intending to hold a position as a school administrator in the State of Iowa.

When To Apply minimally 6-8 weeks prior to performing the duties of a school administrator.

Initial Requirements A principal must have at least a master\\\\’s degree and must have completed an accredited program in education administration. In addition, the applicant must have three years of teaching experience. A superintendent must have a master\\\\’s degree plus 30 semester hours in an approved superintendent\\\\’s program from a recognized institution. In addition, the person must have three years of administrative experience and three years of teaching experience. Administrators must complete 4 renewal credits every 5 years.

Duration Five years.

Processing Time Four to Six Weeks.

Fee Structure Application: $85 License Fee $60 Analysis Fee $75 Background check fee for new applicants Renewal: $85

Renewal Requirements Four renewal credits every five years to include specific evaluator training and the mandatory reporter trainings for child and dependent adult abuse.
