Authorizes an unlimited number of very small or small raffles and one large raffle during the licensing period. In addition, one game night per calendar month within a 24-hour period may be conducted where casino-style games may be held. A licensed qualified organization shall, regardless of the number of licenses issued, conduct only one large raffle per calendar year and one game night per calendar month.

Who Applies Any qualified organization or political party conducting gambling games must obtain a license, including: 1) Those organizations that are exempt from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code 501 (c)(3),(4),(5),(6),(7),(8),(10) or (19); 2) Governments or governmental organizations; 3) K-12 schools, parent-teacher organizations, and booster clubs, which are not 501(c) organizations; 4) Political candidates, parties, or non-party political organizations.

When To Apply A license must be issued by the Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) before gambling takes place, including promotion and the sale of tickets.

Initial Requirements Any organization applying for the 180-Day Qualified Organization License must be able to prove tax-exempt status in order to qualify. A letter of tax-exempt determination from the IRS is required. Proof of having an Iowa sales tax permit is also required.
